Feeling hungry? The family-owned Worden Farm in Punta Gorda will host a program this January that brings together local chefs, farmers and diners. It’s called Outstanding in the Field, and it’s part of a global tour. At each stop, a long table is set up at a small farm and a chef from the area is brought in to prepare a meal using produce from the location itself.

CEO Jim Denevan created Outstanding in the Field in 1999 hoping to connect people, the farmers who grow their food and the land it comes from. The company has traveled to all 50 states since its establishment, enlisted over 300 chefs to help cook the meals and hosted 70,000 guests.

In the upcoming months, Outstanding will travel cross-country, and even into South America, on its 2017 Winter Tour, and will be visiting Argentina, Chile, Mexico, California, Hawaii, New Orleans and Florida.

Chef Steve Seidensticker of the Tableseide Restaurant Group (Louies Modern,Libby’s) will prepare the food for the Worden event. His dishes will include produce from Worden Farm as well as local fish such as mullet, amberjack and lionfish, underutilized, under-appreciated and sometimes invasive fish species. For several years, Louies Modern has hosted the Trash Fish Sarasota dinner to bring these very edible but underused delicacies to Sarasota.

This year will be Outstanding’s fourth time at Worden Farm, an 85-acre homestead in Punta Gorda established by Chris and Eva Worden 13 years ago. The farm sells its produce at the Sarasota Farmers Market and St. Petersburg Saturday Morning Market in the fall, winter and spring and has a staff of as many as 40 during the busiest seasons.

Combining the innovation of Outstanding in the Field, the family-grown goodness of Worden Farm and local culinary touch of Seidensticker, Outstanding’s fourth visit to the area has all the makings of a delicious afternoon.

The event starts at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Worden Farm, 34900 Bermont Road, Punta Gorda, and costs $190. To learn more or make a reservation, click here.
